Giovesi signs for Venezuela GP Lazarus

13 March 2013

Kevin Giovesi will contest the upcoming GP2 campaign with Venezuela GP Lazarus, joining René Binder at the outfit. The 19-year-old Italian graduates to the series after comfortably winning the Copa Class of the 2012 European F3 Open.

"I'm so excited about this great opportunity!" Giovesi commented. "The jump from Formula 3 to GP2 is very high, but the test sessions in Jerez and Barcelona gave me a very good feeling, so I think I’m well prepared for racing in GP2 Series.

"It will be a tough season: I will have to learn the circuits very fast but, with the help of the team that I really want to thank, I can do a good job from the first race in Malaysia."

Giovesi is currently the only Italian signed up to race in GP2 this season, with just six of the 26 seats on the grid yet to be confirmed. Last year, compatriot Davide Valsecchi, who is now the reserve driver for the Lotus F1 Team, picked up individual honours.
