Bird to make GP2 return with Russian Time

19 March 2013

Sam Bird will make a GP2 Series return with Russian Time this year, having spent a season in Formula Renault 3.5. The Briton, who also holds a test and development role with the Mercedes Formula 1 team, is a former race winner in the category.

"I am delighted to be joining Russian Time for the 2013 GP2 season and grateful to everybody involved, in particular (Team Principal) Igor Mazepa, for choosing me for this exceptional opportunity," said Bird. "I look forward to working closely with the team and to helping them achieve their ambition of fighting for the team championship title."

Bird finished third in last year's Formula Renault 3.5 standings, claiming victories on the streets of Monte Carlo and at Silverstone. His personal best season finish in GP2 was achieved back in 2010, when he wound up fifth for the Art Grand Prix squad.

Tom Dillmann has already been signed at Russian Time for the 2013 GP2 campaign.
