Arden's Johnny Cecotto Jr. and Russian Time driver Sam Bird have both been handed grid penalties by the stewards ahead of Saturday morning's GP2 Feature Race at Sepang, with the pair involved in a bizarre qualifying altercation earlier today.
Bird, who qualified fifth, has been given a three-place grid penalty for impeding Cecotto Jr. between Turns 5 and 6, while the latter has been excluded from the qualifying results for deliberately forcing his British rival off-track as a retaliation.
Following the application of the penalties, Bird will start the Feature Race from eighth place, with Cecotto Jr. being demoted from 14th to the back of the 26-strong grid.
