23 May 2013 – Arden driver Johnny Cecotto Jr. claimed pole position for Friday morning's Feature Race in Monte-Carlo. The Venezuelan, competing in the first of two qualifying groups, posted a time of 1:21.141 to edge out team-mate Mitch Evans by 0.016 seconds, while Britain's Sam Bird and Fabio Leimer claimed places on the second row.
With 26 cars making up the 2013 grid, GP2 organisers again opted to split the field into two groups based on odd and even numbers, with 15 minutes designated for each. Cecotto Jr. secured the clean side of the grid for Group A with his personal best effort, with Evans taking the second front row slot for leading the Group B runners.
As the results of both groups filtered through, Kevin Ceccon and Jolyon Palmer were handed top six starting positions, just ahead of Julian Leal and Tom Dillmann. Felipe Nasr, who had a narrow miss with a bird in practice, and Barcelona winner Robin Frijns rounded out the top ten, while Marcus Ericsson, championship leader Stefano Coletti and James Calado could only manage 11th, 14th and 17th respectively.
Friday's Feature Race in Monaco begins at 10.15am local time (GMT +2)
