Leimer fastest in Abu Dhabi practice
1 November 2013 – GP2 title leader Fabio Leimer set the pace during Friday practice for the Abu Dhabi season finale. The Racing Engineering driver clocked a best time of 1:51.766 to lead chief rival Sam Bird, who is seven points adrift in the standings, by 0.158 seconds.
After the opening runs, it was Dani Clos who led the way from Bird, Alexander Rossi and Tom Dillmann. But Bird – who ultimately abandoned his final lap – and Leimer improved on their next stints, setting up qualifying where four points are up for grabs.
Clos had to settle for third, ahead of Rossi, James Calado and Dillmann. The latter two were involved in a strange incident, however, with the stewards now investigating Calado for intentionally running the Frenchman wide after being held up on a lap.
Jon Lancaster and Stéphane Richelmi followed in seventh and eighth respectively, while Johnny Cecotto, Jr. and title outsider Felipe Nasr completed the top ten places.
Qualifying at the Yas Marina Circuit gets underway at 6.55pm local time (GMT +4)
