Marciello tops day one of Abu Dhabi test
5 November 2013 – Ferrari Driver Academy pilot and F3 European Championship winner Raffaele Marciello impressed on his first outing in GP2 on Tuesday, topping the times in the evening test session at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
Marciello, who was fifth in the morning, ended the day 0.156 seconds up on GP3 graduate Carlos Sainz Jr. The Trident Racing man’s best lap was a 1 minute 49.811 seconds.
Daniel Abt meanwhile came in third, with Johnny Cecotto, Jolyon Palmer, Mitch Evans, Rene Binder and Will Stevens in positions 4 through to 8.
25 drivers were in action in total in the post-GP2 season test, including 2013 GP2 Series rookie of the year, Alexander Rossi, who was quickest in the opening session for Caterham. He finished down in 24th position in the second session, however, after suffering a puncture – something that brought out the red flags.
McLaren junior driver and Formula Renault 3.5 Series runner-up Stoffel Vandoorne was 19th in session 1 and 11th in session 2.
