Ferrari star Marciello joins Racing Engineering
18 February 2014 – Ferrari protege Raffaele Marciello has been confirmed at Racing Engineering for the 2014 GP2 season.
The Swiss-born Italian, 19, won the FIA European Formula 3 Championship with Prema Powerteam last year, taking 12 pole positions and 13 wins en route to a 32.5-point winning margin over nearest rival Felix Rosenqvist.
Last month, Ferrari revealed that he would be stepping up to GP2 on the back of his performances, and his team has finally been announced as Racing Engineering, which guided Fabio Leimer to the Drivers' title in 2013.
"I'm really happy to be a part of Racing Engineering," commented Marciello, whose team-mate is yet to be named by the squad. "It is one of the strongest teams and I feel best placed and very proud to be with them.
"GP2 is a fantastic platform because you can start learning more about tyre management [strengthened by rule tweaks for the new season] and because you are also in the paddock close to the Formula 1 environment."
Marciello summed up: "I am really thankful for the continued support of Ferrari Driver Academy and for the opportunity to race with my new team, I'm sure that we'll do a really good job together."
Marciello completed his first mileage for Racing Engineering at the Abu Dhabi test last November.
