Palmer tops first day of pre-season testing
11 March 2014 – Jolyon Palmer topped the first day of GP2 pre-season testing at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Palmer, now driving for DAMS, posted a best effort of 1:49.126 to eclipse RT Russian Time's Mitch Evans by 0.166s. Stéphane Richelmi delivered the third quickest time, 0.630s down on team-mate Palmer.
Hilmer Motorsport driver Daniel Abt was fourth, ahead of ART's Stoffel Vandoorne. Johnny Cecotto Jr., Williams reserve driver Felipe Nasr, Stefano Coletti, Alexander Rossi and Arthur Pic rounded out the top 10 places.
There were a few stoppages on the first day of the test; Hilmer Motorsport's Facu Regalia and RT Russian Time driver Artem Markelov both stopped on track during the morning session, Axcil Jefferies, testing for Trident, spun and stopped at Turn 19 during the afternoon session and Julián Leal's Carlin machine ground to a halt.
The three-day gathering resumes in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
