Rossi tops first day of GP2 testing in Bahrain
19 March 2014 – Caterham driver Alexander Rossi set the fastest time on the first day of the second GP2 pre-season test in Bahrain.
Rossi set a time of 1:40.604 to edge out Hilmer Motorsport driver Daniel Abt by just 0.012s. The German driver had set the fastest time during the morning session. RT Russian Time Mitch Evans was third, less than a tenth of a second behind Rossi.
American driver Conor Daly returned to test for Venezuela GP Lazarus. Daly has yet to confirm his 2014 plans but set the fourth fastest time of the day, ahead of DAMS driver Jolyon Palmer and Trident's Johnny Cecotto Jr.
Ferrari youngster Raffaele Marciello was seventh for Racing Engineering, with reigning AutoGP champion Vittorio Ghirelli in eighth place for Trident. Carlin's Felipe Nasr and ART racer Stoffel Vandoorne rounded out the top 10.
The session passed without any major problems for the 26 runners, although ART's Takuya Izawa stopped on track while Simon Trummer hit a kerb at Turn 10 and had to abandon his Rapax car, bringing a temporary halt to proceedings.
The test continues on Thursday ahead of the first round of the season at the Sakhir circuit in April.
