Lancaster tops final day of pre-season testing
21 March 2014 – The unsigned Jon Lancaster set the standard as GP2 pre-season testing came to an end at the Bahrain International Circuit on Friday.
Lancaster, driving for MP Motorsport but currently without a contract for the new campaign, delivered a time of 1:39.647 in the morning session to eclipse Caterham's Alexander Rossi by five hundredths of a second.
Carlin's Felipe Nasr took third, ahead of ART's Stoffel Vandoorne and Hilmer Motorsport's Daniel Abt, who spent a brief phase at the top of the times before coming to a halt at Turn 6 and bringing out the red flags.
DAMS driver Jolyon Palmer, who topped the opening test day in Abu Dhabi, edged out Carlin's Julián Leal for sixth position, while Racing Engineering's Raffaele Marciello, RT Russian Time's Mitch Evans and Caterham's Rio Haryanto rounded out the top ten.
The opening round of the 2014 GP2 season takes place in Bahrain from April 4-6, supporting Formula 1.
