Palmer takes pole for Monaco Feature Race
22 May 2014 – Jolyon Palmer claimed pole position for Monaco's GP2 Feature Race in Thursday's split qualifying session.
Due to the tight nature of the Monte-Carlo circuit, GP2 officials have in recent seasons run two qualifying sessions in the Principality, with odd and even numbered cars separated in a bid to reduce blocking incidents.
DAMS driver Palmer clocked a 1:20.774 to top Group A, four tenths up on Russian Time driver Mitch Evans.
But as Group B leader Rio Haryanto (Caterham) went faster than Evans, he claimed the second front row slot.
Forming the second row will be the aforementioned Evans and Palmer's team-mate, Stéphane Richelmi.
Last year's pole-sitter, Johnny Cecotto Jr. (Trident) starts from fifth position, with ART's Stoffel Vandoorne sixth.
Hilmer Motorsport driver Daniel Abt, Racing Engineering team-mates Stefano Coletti and Raffaele Marciello and Carlin's Julián Leal complete the top ten starting positions for the first of this weekend's two races.
Friday's Feature Race in Monaco gets underway at 11.15am local time (GMT +2)
