Palmer storms to GP2 pole in Germany
18 July 2014 – GP2 Series leader Jolyon Palmer claimed pole position for the Feature Race at Hockenheim after setting a quick early lap time which his rivals were unable to trump.
Palmer's time of 1:23.383 was set during the first runs and while several drivers improved on their second runs, no-one got close to the DAMS driver.
McLaren young gun Stoffel Vandoorne was 0.282s behind Palmer and will line-up on the front row of the grid, ahead of Stefano Coletti.
Tom Dillmann, who joined Caterham earlier in the week, put in a late lap to move into fourth position, in front of Felipe Nasr and Arthur Pic.
Johnny Cecotto Jr. took seventh, with Raffaele Marciello eighth after twice being baulked by rivals at the penultimate corner. The Italian was held up firstly by Rio Haryanto and then Takuya Izawa, with the stewards set to investigate the incident.
Alexander Rossi will start ninth on his debut with Campos, while Simon Trummer rounds out the top 10 for Rapax.
Saturday's GP2 Feature Race at Hockenheim gets underway at 15:40 local time (GMT +2)
