Matsushita vows to be 'stronger' after ban
22 June 2016 – ART Grand Prix driver Nobuharu Matsushita says he will return to the GP2 Series "stronger" as he prepares to serve a one-round suspension next weekend.
Matsushita led the Sprint Race at the Baku City Circuit but was twice deemed to have transgressed by the stewards as the field prepared for a restart.
On the first occasion Matsushita overtook the Safety Car before the Safety Car line and drove in an "erratic manner", causing danger to other competitors.
Ahead of a second restart, Matsushita was again adjudged to have driven dangerously, accelerating and braking, triggering a multi-car collision behind.
GP2 Series stewards consequently banned the Japanese driver from competing at the upcoming round of the season at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
"I led both races at the front and perhaps my feeling that I wanted to win the races made me impatient," Matsushita posted on his social media pages.
"I can't compete at the next race due to the penalty, but [the following round at] Silverstone is coming soon. I'll try to do my best. I'll be stronger."
ART is yet to name a replacement to drive alongside Sergey Sirotkin.
