Matsushita wins F2 Sprint after rapid start
|3.||N. de Vries||+7.143|
30 July 2017 – Honda protégé Nobuharu Matsushita recorded his second victory of the Formula 2 season as he profited from a superb getaway at the Hungaroring.
Matsushita rocketed forward from fourth on the grid to lead before the field braked for Turn 1, and did not relinquish his position throughout the remainder of proceedings.
A small mistake at Turn 4 midway through brought his advantage over Luca Ghiotto down to under a second, but the ART racer quickly re-established his authority up front.
Ghiotto held second but tumbled down the order in the closing stages, having been passed by Nyck de Vries at Turn 2, Oliver Rowland at Turn 9, and Charles Leclerc at Turn 12, on the same lap.
De Vries came under pressure from Rowland late on and the Briton adopted the outside line through Turn 2, which became the inside line for Turn 3, to snatch second.
Charles Leclerc claimed fourth place as he battled power problems, narrowly fending off Norman Nato and Nicholas Latifi.
The Arden and DAMS drivers had embarked on a race-long scrap, swapping positions a couple of times, before Nato prevailed, via minor contact at Turn 1.
Alexander Albon slipped back from pole position and trailed home seventh, and compounded Ghiotto's misery by putting a move on the Italian late on.
1. Charles Leclerc - 208 points
2. Oliver Rowland - 158 points
3. Artem Markelov - 123 points
The next round of the season will take place at Spa-Francorchamps from August 25-27
