Scheckter stays put with D&R

5 June 2009

Tomas Scheckter has been retained for nine more races of the 2009 season, the Dreyer & Reinbold team has announced. The South African, who is currently lying twenty-fourth in the championship and with thirty-five points, is delighted with the outcome and hopes to impresses more as the year progresses.

The team made the announcement in Texas on Thursday, ensuring that South Africa's only candidate - and son of 1979 Formula One World Champion Jody - remains in the field. With their leading driver now in place until at least the race at Chicagoland Speedway on 29 August, sponsor MonaVie will also be remaining.

"I'm really excited about it," said 28-year-old Scheckter. "I think we proved in a short time at Milwaukee that we are competitive; Dennis (Reinbold) and Robbie (Buhl) have given me a great opportunity and I'm lucky to have MonaVie onboard. They have been extremely supportive and I'm looking forward to getting the MonaVie car on the track in Texas and hopefully putting it in victory lane."
