Castroneves downcast after shunt
29 June 2009 – Helio Castroneves was disappointed to be a greater victim of lapped traffic than most at Richmond. Aiming for a top five result from third at the start of the race, the Brazilian's Penske finished its night broken and in the wall.
"I'm extremely disappointed with the way our race ended tonight," Helio said. "We didn't have a winning car but we had a top five car and we were just trying to stay on the lead lap and score some championship points."
With Dario Franchitti also angry about the intensity of back markers, retirements for both Castroneves and team-mate Ryan Briscoe brought an early end to a highly unsatisfactory race of the Penske team. "Unfortunately, for some reason, a car slowed down in front of me and in order for me to not crash into him, I ended up crashing myself," Helio explained. "I had to get out of the throttle which just pushed my car up into the marbles and then the wall. We just have to focus on Watkins Glen and move forward."
