Having competed in the ARCA Re/Max series to finish sixth at Daytona earlier this month, Danica Patrick endured a difficult introduction to the NASCAR Nationwide championship on Sunday by finishing 31st at Fontana.
Patrick will compete in several NASCAR Nationwide races this year, around her IndyCar schedule with Andretti Autosport, and hopes to improve after starting 36th at the weekend.
After plummeting towards the back of the field in the 300-mile race, Danica eventually recovered to 31st but was penalised twice for speeding in the pit lane.
"That's definitely a departure from being in the IndyCar here, where you're glued to that white line," she commented. "There was all kinds of talk about not driving over the seams but you never have to really know much about the seams when driving an IndyCar because you never really drive over them anyway, and you never lift.
"I've got used to running up front. It's an adjustment, like starting from zero all over again."
