Dixon tops first Toronto practice

16 July 2010

Ganassi’s Scott Dixon finished atop the Toronto timesheets in the opening practice session on Friday as the IndyCar Series makes its first trip of the season to Canada. However, it was a bittersweet session for the 2008 Champion as he was involved in a collision with Takuma Sato’s KV Racing car shortly before the chequered flag flew.

Third in the championship and 40 points off leader Will Power, Dixon began his weekend in controlled fashion by recording a 1:03.914 lap time, which was just six tenths quicker than the Dreyer & Reinbold of Justin Wilson.

The local crowd was delighted with Alex Tagliani’s top three position as leading Penske Helio Castroneves and the second Ganassi car of Dario Franchitti made the top five. Power’s session ended with eighth spot.

However, the real talking point was the Dixon-Sato clash at Turn 6, which resulted in Sato spinning broadside across the front of Dixon, who was subsequently tapped by the Conquest of Belgium’s Bertrand Baguette.

The second practice session begins at 1:50pm local time (BST -5)
