Penske do the triple in second practice

23 July 2010

Roger Penske’s team demonstrated superb pace in Friday afternoon practice as championship leader and 2009 victor Will Power headed a 1-2-3 result from team-mates Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves. Best of the rest at Edmonton was Practice 1 pace-setter and reigning Champion Dario Franchitti as Takuma Sato rounded out the top five.

It had been a relatively quiet morning period, with none of the front runners making appearances until the final 20 minutes, although a greater amount of drama came in the afternoon.

Brief halts to the action came in the form of wild moments for three drivers, with two of them having already caused red flags earlier on; Bertrand Baguette this time crashed his Conquest as Milka Duno stalled her Dale Coyne following a spin. The Dreyer and Reinbold of Tomas Scheckter was also in trouble, ending its day in the wall.

At the sharp end, 2008 winner Scott Dixon just missed the top five in the second Ganassi car as Justin Wilson followed for Dreyer & Reinbold. Next up were the two KV Racing machines of Venezuela’s E.J. Viso and darling of the crowd Paul Tracy, with the first Andretti Autosport of Tony Kanaan completing the ten.

Saturday’s third and final practice session, also an hour long, begins at 10:15am local time (BST -7)
