Franchitti quickest in wet first Kentucky practice

3 September 2010

Reigning Champion Dario Franchitti has posted the fastest time in first practice ahead of this weekend’s round of the IndyCar Series at Kentucky Speedway. The Target Chip Ganassi man was less than a tenth quicker than four other drivers, however, with Penske’s Helio Castroneves being the closest.

Intermittent showers in Sparta played havoc with proceedings on Friday morning as, following 20 minutes of normal track action which featured only a small yellow intervention from a damp Turn 1, red flags flew due to rain for nearly half an hour.

The clerk of the course then planned a further quarter of an hour of running time although this was shorted by seven minutes when further heavy rainfall arrived.

Behind the top two, Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon and Ryan Briscoe completed the top five as championship leader Will Power ended the period in tenth spot.
