Championship leader Will Power fully acknowledges the challenge which lies before him, with just two races now remaining in this year’s IndyCar Series. Having headed the standings since Round 1 in mid-March, the Australian’s lead over current title holder Dario Franchitti was cut to just 17 points in Kentucky on Saturday night.
With Penske and Helio Castroneves having taken a canny victory at Sparta, Franchitti continued to reel in Power as the Ganassi and second Penske cars came home in respective finishing positions of fifth and eighth.
“He’s a very mistake-free, fast driver and he’s very experienced,” Power comments of the 2007 and 2009 Champion.
“He knows how to win championships, he knows how to win races - I’ve just got to be a little bit better than that.
“I've definitely got my confidence up on ovals. I just have to put it all together on time. We have our work cut out for us for the championship but we still have the lead and onward we go.”
The next IndyCar action will come from Motegi, Japan next weekend before the championship finale in Miami a fortnight later.
