Saavedra joins Conquest for Miami finale

27 September 2010

Conquest Racing has confirmed that Sebastien Saavedra will be making an IndyCar return in order to drive for the team in Miami this weekend. The appearance will mark the Columbian’s second in the championship as he becomes the squad’s sixth race driver of the year.

Then 19, Bogotá’s Saavedra debuted in IndyCars at this year’s Indianapolis 500 in May, taking part with Bryan Herta Autosport and retiring with just 41 of the 200 laps remaining.

“I'm really happy to have an opportunity to drive for Conquest at Homestead,” said the 20-year-old.

“It will be tough because I have not driven an IndyCar for four months but I am up to the challenge. Fortunately, I have a test day to prepare for the weekend.”

He added that preparations are ongoing for a desired first full season in 2011.

“IndyCar is my main focus for 2011, so it's really important to have an opportunity to start preparing now,” he continued. “Finally, to have my good friend Bertrand Baguette as a team-mate means a lot.”
