Power clinches pole position
9 April 2011 – Will Power will start from pole position for the second race weekend in succession, after the Australian set a time of 1:11.455 to lead the field at the Barber Motorsports Park. His effort was two tenths quicker than Penske team-mate Ryan Briscoe, with Scott Dixon - the pace setter from today’s final practice session - in third place.
Conditions were much the same as qualifying got underway, with the pleasant weather continuing from the last practice session of the weekend. The final Penske car of Hélio Castroneves was able to claim fourth behind the top three runners, while Justin Wilson secured a strong fifth, despite suffering from an injured wrist.
Oriol Servià was next up in sixth place, as the Spaniard converted his strong practice form into a positive grid position. Current Champion Dario Franchitti could only manage seventh for Target Chip Ganassi Racing, and will be hard pushed to repeat the victory he earned on the streets of St. Petersburg a fortnight ago.
Towards the tail end of the top ten, James Hinchcliffe moved up six places compared to his effort in final practice, and will start Sunday's race from eighth. Behind the Canadian, America's Mario Andretti secured ninth, with compatriot Graham Rahal the last man to beat the 1:12.000 barrier just behind.
Sunday's race begins at 2:45pm local time (BST -6)
