Briscoe remains fastest in final practice
16 April 2011 – Ryan Briscoe set the fastest time during the third and final practice session at Long Beach on Saturday, continuing from where he left off 24 hours ago. The Penske driver set a time of 1:10.322 to finish ahead of team-mate Will Power, with just 0.038 seconds separating the pair. Ganassi occupied the next two positions, with Scott Dixon in third, and reigning Champion Dario Franchitti setting the fourth fastest time.
Predominantly clear blue skies created almost perfect conditions as the session got underway, with the state of California currently enjoying a warm air temperature, and low wind speeds. Narrowly behind the top three runners, Ryan Hunter-Reay was the leading American driver, and Sebastian Saavedra secured his strongest result of the weekend so far in sixth.
Tony Kanaan was next up for KV Racing, ending the hour of practice just ahead of Marco Andretti and Takuma Sato. James Hinchcliffe posted a time some five hundredths faster than E.J. Viso to finish in tenth, while 12th place man Oriol Servià will need some work carried on his car ahead of qualifying after crashing at Turn 6.
Saturday’s qualifying session begins at 2:30pm local time (BST -8)
