Conway and Hunter-Reay out of Indy 500

Conway and Hunter-Reay out of Indy 500

22 May 2011
starting grid

Britain’s Mike Conway and the United States’ Ryan Hunter-Reay have failed to qualify for next weekend’s Indianapolis 500, having been knocked out of the running in Sunday’s Bump Day. On the contrary, Danica Patrick just crept through along with Marco Andretti and Alex Lloyd, after a rain-affected session.

As the rain came, Patrick’s chances looked all but over, although the popular 29-year-old made the most of much improved conditions for the final hour by moving up to 26th position. Conway, on the other hand, used up all three qualifying attempts but failed to make the cut – having suffered a huge accident in last year’s race.

Earlier today, other notable players making it through were Ryan Briscoe, Paul Tracy, Graham Rahal and Charlie Kimball.
