Ryan Briscoe was the fastest man during final practice at the Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, putting his Penske machine at the top of the order with a personal best effort of 24.434 seconds. The Australian led KV Racing’s Takuma Sato who will start the first race of the weekend from fourth place, while J.R. Hildebrand set the third fastest time of the session for Panther Racing.
Championship leader Will Power grabbed fourth in the second of the three Penske cars on-track, just over half a tenth behind pace-setting team-mate Briscoe. James Hinchcliffe was next up at the wheel of his Newmaan/Haas Racing machine, leading the final two KV Racing cars of Tony Kanaan and E.J. Viso.
Scott Dixon completed the most laps out of the 30-strong field in eighth place, finishing ahead of Ganassi team-mate Dario Franchitti and Canada’s Paul Tracy who rounded out the top ten. Pole-sitter Alex Tagliani elected not to take any risks ahead of the first race, ending the session in 19th place.
