Power wins Race 2 in Texas

IndyCar Series: Texas Motor Speedway: Sunday race 2 results

Will Power secured victory during the final race of the weekend in Texas on Saturday night, taking advantage of a strong grid draw to make his way to the front and bag win number three of the 2011 campaign so far. The Australian led home Ganassi’s Scott Dixon by just under a second, while Ryan Briscoe crossed the line in third.

A randomized grid saw Tony Kanaan start from pole, just ahead of Wade Cunningham and eventual winner Power. The Brazilian put up a strong fight early on, but the pressure was ultimately too much and he lost his lead on Lap 41. Power continued to deliver consistent times until the chequered flag fell, holding a gap of nine tenths back to Dixon who was able to squeeze past Kanaan for second.

Hélio Castroneves grabbed fourth in the third Penske machine, completing an almost perfect result for the Mooresville-based squad. Kanaan had to settle for fifth after slipping further back, finishing just ahead of Marco Andretti and Race 1 winner Dario Franchitti. The Scot produced a stunning fight back from a lowly 28th on the grid, while Danica Patrick, Ryan Hunter-Reay and E.J. Viso held onto top ten finishes.

Round 7 of the chamionship will be staged at the Milwaukee Mile oval circuit next weekend
