Simon Pagenaud will replace the injured Justin Wilson for qualifying at Mid-Ohio, with the latter suffering a late crash in final practice on Saturday. The nature of Wilson’s injuries, if any, have not yet been revealed, but Pagenaud will qualify the #22 car in preparation for the Dreyer & Reinbold driver's possible return tomorrow afternoon.
"Simon would be a turnkey fit for us to be able to do on short notice," team co-owner Dennis Reinbold told the official IndyCar website. "He was fantastic at Barber, a joy to work with so if you have to look at it and say, ‘What’s a good backup plan?’
"This is a good backup plan. The car should be somewhat familiar with him and he should be pretty quick."
Wilson, whose crash occurred after running wide at Turn 1, has had a CAT scan and is currently undergoing a range of further medical checks to assess any potential injuries.
