Franchitti 'devastated' after retirement

IndyCar Series: Loudon 2011: Sunday race results

Dario Franchitti’s run of 43 race finishes in the IndyCar series came to an abrupt end this afternoon, with the reigning Champion crashing out at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway following an incident with KV Racing driver Takuma Sato.

The Scotsman had been comfortably leading until a caution period for light rainfall, blaming Sato for their clash when the racing got back underway on Lap 119.

"I don’t know, Takuma looked like he came up into my rear

into the middle of the straight," Franchitti explained to EPSN after stepping out of his car. "I don’t know what the deal is. I still don’t believe I put a wheel wrong this weekend.

"I don’t know why he’s sitting so close coming up to the restart. I got the jump, we were coming along and then he comes up. I don’t know what he’s trying to do. It’s not the first time and I don’t think it’s going to be the last time with him. When you have a car like that it’s pretty devastating (to retire)."
