Wheldon to replace Tagliani at Kentucky
26 September 2011 – Dan Wheldon will take to the wheel of IndyCar machinery during a race weekend for the first time since his Indianapolis 500 victory back in May, with the British driver set to contest this weekend’s Kentucky event in place of Sam Schmidt’s Alex Tagliani.
"I can’t thank Alex (Tagliani) enough for letting me drive his car in Kentucky and to work with the team in preparation for Las Vegas," said Wheldon, who will also be competing in the World Championshop finale at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway next month.
"I know when I step into the No. 77 Bowers & Wilkins at Magnolia Honda, I’ll be stepping into a fast race car that can win. As a driver, that’s all you can ask for.
"I’m really excited about this opportunity and look forward to working with everyone at Sam’s team. They were a large part of our winning effort in May, and I’ll do my best to get back to Victory Lane."
