Castroneves fined for post-race comments

28 September 2011

Hélio Castroneves has been given a fine of $30,000 (£19,200 approx) and placed on probation for his Motegi outburst, labelling Race Director Brian Barnhart as ‘a circus clown’ on Twitter after a penalty for a yellow flag overtake. The Penske man will be able to appeal, with his fine also being eradicated by appearing in public for the category.

The official IndyCar website outlined the reasons behind the decision, explaining that it has been applied for the "Use of improper, profane or disparaging language in reference to officials for comments he made toward the Race Director via Twitter after he was penalised for passing under a local yellow on the final lap on the 2.983-mile road course."
