Scott Dixon was quick to get back into the swing of oval driving at the Kentucky Speedway on Saturday, topping the timesheets in the first of two practice sessions this weekend. The Ganassi driver, who won at Motegi last time out, edged ahead of both Vitor Meira and fellow New Zealander Wade Cunningham to grab the top spot.
Dario Franchitti was next up with his personal best effort, outpacing KV Racing’s Takuma Sato and current championship leader Will Power. The title rivals are separated by just 11 points heading into the event, with the Las Vegas Motor Speedway ready to host the finale when the racing is over on Sunday afternoon.
Behind the fastest six runners at the end of the session, a quartet of American drivers followed, led by Graham Rahal and Charlie Kimball. J.R. Hildebrand and Ed Carpenter were theremaining two men from the aforementioned group, while Penske's Ryan Briscoe and Hélio Castroneves failed to make the top ten.
Second practice begins at 2.45pm local time (BST -5)
