Dixon praises 2012 IndyCar safety

6 October 2011

2008 Champion Scott Dixon has hailed the new-look IndyCar which will be gracing the grid from next season onwards. The New Zealander, who tested the safer chassis at Mid-Ohio on Tuesday, is now thoroughly looking forward to racing the machine.

“We've got a totally new package of technology, it's closer to what people use in their cars,” Ganassi’s Dixon told the IndyStar. “It's a lot lighter, it's more nimble and, to me, it's more up-to-date.

“The seating is a big safety improvement; there's three inches (7.6 centimetres) of foam surrounding the cockpit before you even put the seat in, so things like what happened with Justin Wilson at Mid-Ohio earlier this year, I think, will be eliminated and you won't have those big forces being pushed through the drivers.”
