Kanaan goes quickest in final practice
14 October 2011 – Tony Kanaan moved atop the timesheets in the second and final practice session for this weekend’s IndyCar season finale in Las Vegas. The KV Racing driver led the way from Newman/Haas’ Oriol Servia, with championship contenders Will Power and Dario Franchitti in respective 12th and 15th positions.
Kanaan was on top with a best effort of 24.792 seconds, edging Servia out by just 25 thousandths as Ryan Hunter-Reay, Scott Dixon, E.J. Viso and Simona de Silvestro confirmed six nationalities of driver in as many positions. Danica Patrick, who was fastest on Thursday, tumbled down to 20th for Andretti Autosport.
There was a single, dramatic incident at the start of the Group 1 session as Dale Coyne’s James Jakes suffered a large impact with the Turn 2 wall which resulted in several spectacular flames. Despite minor burns, the Englishman escaped unaided.
