Power out of hospital, Mann and Hildebrand remain

17 October 2011
IndyCar Series: Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Sunday

Will Power has been dispatched from hospital following the multiple IndyCar crash which took the life of Dan Wheldon. In addition, it has been confirmed that Pippa Mann and J.R. Hildebrand, who were also taken from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway by road ambulance, will be remaining on Sunday night for observation.

Power - who suffered back injuries - was one of three drivers, including Wheldon, whose car inverted during the accident, with 15 competitors having been involved and several vehicles soon catching fire. Wheldon, who was coming from the back of the grid in a challenge to win five million dollars by taking victory, was launched into the air before striking the retaining wall and catch fencing cockpit-first.

The race was declared over as all remaining drivers returned to the track in a slow-speed, five-lap salute while team representatives lined pit road.
