Power and Mann continue recoveries

Power and Mann continue recoveries

26 October 2011

Will Power and Pippa Mann are continuing their convalesces following the multiple-car crash in Las Vegas’ IndyCar finale. It has been confirmed that the Australian, who had been fighting with Dario Franchitti for the title, suffered a fractured vertebra whereas the English driver will be requiring hand surgery.

In Power’s case, the Penske driver was released from hospital on the Sunday night but continued to suffer back pain; he has since been diagnosed with a compression fracture of his fourth thoracic vertebra – a similar outcome to the crash he endured at the Infineon Raceway in 2009.

Mann will undergo surgery on the little finger of her right hand, with the objective being to ‘rebuild’ the right side of the hand – including blood vessels, nerves, tendons and a skin graft - according to a Twitter update.

No less than three cars inverted during the accident, with one being that of Dan Wheldon who tragically succumbed to his injures.
