Bourdais joins Lotus-backed IndyCar team

13 January 2012

Ex Formula 1 driver Sébastien Bourdais has joined Dragon Racing for the 2012 IndyCar season. The outfit is now backed by Group Lotus, the same name behind the Lotus Renault GP F1 squad as well as teams in feeder series GP2 and GP3.

Jay Penske will continue to head up the operation as Frenchman Bourdais is joined by IndyCar rookie Katherine Legge of England, having been dropped by Toro Rosso midway through the 2009 F1 season.

As a result of the backing from Lotus, which also includes an engine supply, Dragon Racing will run in a legendary black and gold colour scheme.

Although his time in Formula 1 proved unfruitful across 2008 and 2009, Bourdais has won the greatest number of IndyCar races - tied with Paul Tracy on 31 victories.
