Barrichello to test IndyCar next week

26 January 2012

Former Williams man Rubens Barrichello has organised an IndyCar test for next week. The Paulista will be in action at the Sebring International Raceway on Monday and Tuesday with KV Racing, the same team which fields ex F1 driver Takuma Sato.

Left on the sidelines by Williams in favour of compatriot Bruno Senna, Barrichello has been forced into retirement from F1 after competing in the World Championship since 1993. Informed by a team source on condition of anonymity, The Associated Press learned that the Indy test would be happening over the course of two days.

On the day of the Senna-Williams announcement, Barrichello admitted through Twitter that his future is now ‘wide open’. Incidentally, the KV Racing IndyCar team ran, not just Sato in 2011, but also E.J. Viso and Barrichello's foster brother Tony Kanaan; in what is believed to have started as a joke between the two, Kanaan has now posted the following message on Twitter:

‘As we couldn't keep a secret anymore (Rubens Barrichello) be testing for us. Very proud he can help (KV Racing) and myself with his feedback.’

The team is yet to confirm the test officially.
