Simona de Silvestro has announced that she will be joining KV Racing for the 2013 IndyCar campaign, switching from long-time squad HVM Racing. The Swiss driver joined the sport back in 2010 and has competed for the same team ever since, but is looking forward to the challenge of adapating to new surroundings.
"It’s definitely exciting to be joining KV Racing," de Silvestro explained. "I’ve had a lot of good results in the past and I think this will help me get more. Having a team-mate like Tony (Kanaan) is really cool. I’m just really looking forward to the season."
Despite her optimism over the move, de Silvestro is not underestimating the challenge ahead.
"When you change teams it’s hard," she said. "The other team was like a family, but it was time for a change and this opportunity made a lot of sense. You have to get used to working with new people, especially when you’ve been somewhere three years."
De Silvestro finished 24th in the overall IndyCar standings this season, achieving a personal best result of 13th place in June's Detroit Grand Prix. She will partner the aforementioned Kanaan next year, with regular 2012 drivers E.J. Viso and Rubens Barrichello currently pursuing opportunites with other IndyCar outfits.
