Patrick rules out Indy 500 entry this season

12 January 2013

Danica Patrick says she will not be entering this year's Indy 500, instead opting to focus fully on her first complete season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup. The 30-year-old, who left the IndyCar Series in 2011, is hoping to produce a genuine title bid this year.

"I can confirm that I will not be doing the Indy 500," Patrick confirmed this week. "The team and I decided to focus on Cup. It's going to be important for me, running for the championship full-time for the first time, to really keep myself focused on the Cup car."

Patrick made her Indy 500 debut back in 2005, finishing fourth at the blue-riband event. In 2009, she claimed a podium finish for Andretti Green at the oval venue.
