Sato posts fastest time in Sebring test

20 February 2013

Takuma Sato posted the quickest time during the private IndyCar pre-season test at Sebring on Tuesday. The Japanese driver, who raced in Formula 1 for Jordan, BAR and Super Aguri between 2002 and 2008, delivered a personal best time of 51.947 with new team ABC Supply to edge out two-time IndyCar Champion Scott Dixon.

"It was nice to get back in the car after the winter - it felt really good," said Sato. "The team started with a setup they knew, and I needed to feel the difference from what I've experienced. Then we moved on to the testing program and various setup changes. They weren't always positive but we learned from the negative changes too. It was a very solid morning. In the afternoon we were constantly learning. We did lots of miles so the car was very reliable and we were able to get through most of our program."

Will Power was the quickest of the Chevrolet-powered drivers in third place, while Dario Franchitti, Justin Wilson and Tony Kanaan completed the top six runners.
