Pagenaud fastest on Indy 500 Carb Day
24 May 2013 – Schmidt Peterson driver Simon Pagenaud set the pace during Carb Day for the Indianapolis 500, with the field practicing for the final time before Sunday's race. The Frenchman delivered a 225.827mph effort to usurp E.J. Viso in the closing stages of the session, while reigning Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay completed the top three.
Following on from a largely disappointing collective qualifying performance, six Honda-powered cars occupied the top ten positions as Friday's action concluded. 2008 Indy 500 winner Scott Dixon was best of the rest behind the top three runners, followed closely by Sébastien Bourdais and Ganassi team-mate Dario Franchitti.
British drivers James Jakes and Katherine Legge ended the session in seventh and eighth positions respectively, while Marco Andretti and Alex Tagliani rounded out the fastest ten runners. Ana Beatriz and Carlos Muñoz were involved in the most dramatic incident of the day, with the former hitting the back of the Colombian's crawling car.
Ed Carpenter will start the race from pole position, just ahead of Muñoz and Andretti.
