Barracuda signs Hildebrand and Filippi
13 August 2013 – J.R. Hildebrand and Luca Filippi will share Barracuda Racing's single entry for the remainder of the 2013 IndyCar campaign, the outfit announced on Tuesday.
Ahead of the latest Mid-Ohio round, Alex Tagliani relinquished his race seat to allow for the evaluation of other drivers. Established GP2 racer and former Honda test driver Luca Filippi was the first beneficiary, having missed out on a drive earlier in the year.
The Italian, who finished 16th on his debut, will stay onboard for the Baltimore and Houston street events, while Hildebrand is set to contest the next round at Sonoma and the finale at Fontana, having been dropped by Panther after the Indianapolis 500.
"JR is an exciting prospect for us," team co-owner Bryan Herta said of the development. "He’s a talented driver and it made sense for him to be able to compete at his ‘home’ races in Sonoma and Fontana.
"We were also very impressed with Luca and happy to give him two more outings. He made a good impression on everyone, and this will allow him the chance to race on American-style street circuits."
The upcoming Grand Prix of Sonoma takes place on the weekend of August 24-25.
