Franchitti leaves hospital after crash
11 October 2013 – Dario Franchitti has been released from the hospital where he was recuperating after his frightening crash during the closing stages of Sunday's IndyCar race in Houston.
The Ganassi driver suffered concussion, two fractured vertebra and a fractured right ankle in the accident, having launched over Takuma Sato's car and into the barriers.
He will now be transferred to Indianapolis for further evaluations, before an expected second procedure on his broken ankle. Although the Scot is due to recover fully, doctors have given no indication as to when he might be able to return to the cockpit.
Alex Tagliani has been signed to replace Franchitti in next weekend's Fontana finale.
