Grid penalties for Dixon, Castroneves
17 October 2013 – IndyCar title rivals Scott Dixon and Hélio Castroneves will be hit with 10-place grid penalties for the season finale at Fontana, having both changed their engines.
As is the situation in Formula 1, IndyCar places a usage limit on engines. Units are required to hit 2000 miles between changes, with an allocation of five per driver.
Josef Newgarden, Takuma Sato, Sebastián Saavedra and Graham Rahal have also opted to take penalties, with the Auto Club Speedway traditionally tough on engines.
Dixon holds a 25-point advantage over Castroneves ahead of this weekend's race.
