Dixon claims third IndyCar title at Fontana
20 October 2013 – Scott Dixon has won his third IndyCar championship, after a hectic race at Fontana. The Chip Ganassi driver finished fifth, while championship rival Hélio Castroneves hit trouble and came home in sixth. The race was won by Penske driver Will Power.
"It was a crazy day," stated Dixon. "We started back. The car we had to work on a fair bit through the race. Just a huge credit to Team Target. They played everything straight tonight. We had to work on a bit of strategy, we had to work on the car a lot, and then we had an issue with some overheating problems towards the end. I still can't believe we've won the championship. It’s fantastic. So many people to thank and it's just unbelievable."
The race was also marked by a big shunt involving Justin Wilson. The Briton spun in the middle of the race track and was T-boned by Tristan Vautier. The aftermath of the accident caused several other drivers to crash. Wilson was the only one injured, with a fractured pelvis.
