Kurt Busch seals Andretti Indy 500 seat
4 March 2014 – NASCAR star Kurt Busch will contest the 2014 Indianapolis 500 with Andretti Autosport.
The 35-year-old, winner of the 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup title, will attempt to combine his drive with the clashing NASCAR round at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, something only three other drivers have accomplished.
He tested IndyCar machinery for Andretti at Indianapolis last year, following which a deal has been put together.
"That was a whole kid in a candy store moment of experiencing an open-wheel car at 220 mph," said Busch.
"You can definitely get a different appreciation for the track and its heritage with an open-wheel car versus a stock car that I've done the last 15 years there. It got my mind going and my juices flowing on 'I want to do this.'"
Robby Gordon, John Andretti and Tony Stewart are the others to have started both races on the same day.
