Strong storms delay start of Barber IndyCar race
27 April 2014 – A line of thunderstorms drenched Barber Motorsports Park this afternoon, forcing the Indy Lights race to be shortened and delaying the start of the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
Fans were asked to evacuate grandstands and open areas around the track as thunder and lightning forced IndyCar officials to push back the green flag. At this point, officials estimate a 10:15pm GMT (5:15pm ET) start. Previously scheduled for 90 laps, the race will now be a two-hour timed event when it does begin.
