Filippi gets two-round deal with RLL
12 June 2014 – Luca Filippi will return to the IndyCar series at the Houston and Toronto street course double-header events later this season, after the Italian finalised a deal to run a second Rahal Letterman Lanigan entry.
Filippi was close to signing for Bobby Rahal's squad in 2012, but he missed out due to a lack of funding.
Despite the setback, he went on to make a belated series debut with Bryan Herta Autosport last season, contesting four races and taking a personal best finish of 10th in the first of Houston's two contests.
"We have been trying to find a way to work together for a long time and to finally have it happen is a great feeling," said Filippi, who formerly tested for the Honda F1 team and finished runner-up in GP2 in 2011.
Rahal added: "We tried to get Luca into the team a few years back and even went so far as to build a seat but we were unable to find the funding. In the meantime he went to Bryan Herta's team and showed what he can do.
"I don't think there is any question that he has the pace to run towards the front. On top of that, he is a real gentleman and we are looking forward to working with him and seeing how he can help the team progress."
Oriol Servià also drove a second car alongside regular Graham Rahal for three rounds earlier in the season.
