Rain cancels IndyCar practice at Iowa
11 July 2014 – Poor weather conditions led to the cancellation of Friday morning's opening IndyCar practice session at the Iowa Speedway.
Early rainfall saw officials signal a caution, before increasing electrical activity brought out the red and ultimately chequered flags.
But this was not before James Hinchliffe set the fastest time.
The defending race winner, Hinchcliffe recorded a lap time of 183.647mph before the session was ended after just 15 minutes. Another former winner, Tony Kanaan, finished second with an effort of 183.562mph.
Carlos Munoz, Charlie Kimball and Marco Andretti rounded out the top five.
The changing weather forecast for the area originally had clear skies anticipated, but the rain risk has increased this morning and now sits at around 70 per cent.
Qualifying is scheduled for 14:00 local time (GMT -5), but if this is rained out, the series will rely on points to set the grid for tomorrow night's 300-lap race. A practice session is also anticipated for 18:00 local time.
